For an elegant change from your everyday look, style your hair into an updo. Wear a sophisticated updo for a special occasion or a night on the town. A casual and simple updo makes a nice change when you want to keep cool or are having a bad hair day. Updo styles look attractive with all hair colors and types. Although updo hairstyles are easiest to achieve with medium-to-long hair lengths, you can also create an updo look with short hair.
1.Wash and condition your hair. A leave-in conditioner may be helpful in keeping your hair smooth and shiny. Use a styling product such as gel or mousse to give your hair body and hold. Be sure to use products that will work with your hair type.
2.Brush or comb your hair to remove tangles. Dry your hair with a blow dryer and a round brush to create fullness. If you have bangs, blow-dry them to curve under and toward one side.
3.Part your hair on either side. Pull hair into a ponytail, high on the back of your head. Use an elastic band that closely matches your hair color.
4.Section and curl the ponytail with a curling iron. Loosely pin each curl to your head with a bobby pin. Spray the curls with hairspray to keep them in place.
5.Style your bangs to sweep over to one side. Keep them in place by using a little hair gel or styling spray.
6.Accent your updo with a skinny, embellished headband or other changeable hair ornament. Rhinestone-topped bobby pins also add glimpses of sparkle when used to pin the curls to your head.
Casual Updo
1.Follow the instructions in Steps 1 and 2 of the elegant updo.
2.Gather your hair as if you are putting it in a low ponytail for a quick, casual updo. Twist the hair upward and then tuck the ends under.
3.Fasten to the back of your head with a large barrette. Pull a few tendrils of hair loose at the nape of your neck and at the sides for a feminine, easy style.
Updo for Short Hair
1.Follow the instructions in Steps 1 and 2 of the elegant updo.
2.Pull the sides and top of your hair back and up if your hair is short.
3.Fasten with small hair clips, barrettes or jeweled bobby pins. Leave the back of your hair down.
4.Consider adding a small, clip-on hair piece to the back or top of your hair for added thickness.
