How to Create a Messy Knot

A messy knot is a quick hairdo for formal or casual wear. There’s no need to go to a stylist for an updo. This one is easy to do yourself. Medium to long hair is needed for best results.

1.Wash and condition your hair the day before, or at least several hours before you style this hairdo. Freshly washed hair can be difficult to work with.
2.Brush your hair thoroughly. A boar bristle brush is best for creating shine. If your hair tends to be flyaway, use a few drops of shine serum on your hands while you create your ponytail.
3.Make a ponytail in back of your head, but on the last twist of your covered elastic hair band, pull the ponytail only part-way through the loop. Take the ends of your ponytail and wrap them around the base, allowing the free ends to stick out as they please.
4.Secure the end piece of hair under the base of your ponytail with a bobby pin. Fan your knot out on each side and secure each side with a bobby pin.
5.Arrange the fanning pieces of hair in your messy knot. Smooth hairs on the side of your head and use hair spray, if you like, to set them in place. Add a  changeable hair ornament, if you wish, by anchoring it under the base of your ponytail.Changeable-Hair-Ornament

How to Make a Beaded Dragonfly Hair Ornament

Hair ornaments come in a wide variety of shapes, designs and styles. Bugs are quite popular as hair ornaments. Lady bugs, butterflies, and dragonflies are all common. Now you can make your own dragonfly hair ornament out of a hair comb, some beads and a few lengths of wire. It’s cute and creative and everyone will notice you when you wear it. This is not just for little girls to wear, but for big girls, too.
1.Take small gauge wire and string it with tiny seed beads. These wires are then looped to create petals for the flowers. Simply make a loop with the beaded wire, twist it together in the center and start beading another loop, twist that together in the center of the flower and continue until all the petals are completed. Make as many flowers as you wish, in whichever colors you please.
2.Form the dragonfly from two lengths of wire, one for the body and one for the wings. Make the wing wire twice as long as the body wire. Use one medium sized round bead to form the head and two oval shaped beads to form the body of the insect. Bead the wings using tiny seed beads. Form one wing, then twist the middle section of wire around the body wire between the two oval beads. Now bead the other side and secure the end of the wire at the mid-section again.
3.Wire the beaded flowers onto the top of a hair comb by wrapping a second piece of wire around one end of the comb, twining it around the flowered wire and wrapping the remaining section of wire around the other end of the comb. Do not cut off the excess wire but leave it sticking out above the flowers. If you choose to use a clip rather than a comb, attach the flowers in the same way, by winding the ends of the wire through the holes in the clip.
4.Twist the end of the excess wire around the mid-section of the dragonfly, pinching the wire with pliers to make it as tight as possible to stabilize the beaded bug. This should hold the dragonfly firmly in place above the flowers and, of course, above the hair of the person wearing the comb. The dragonfly will wobble back and forth, above the comb, or clip, making it look as if it is flying about Changeable-Hair-Ornament your head. Use a wire that is thick enough that the dragonfly does not fall over.
5.Use a dab of strong glue to keep all the components solidly in place if needed. Sometimes wire can work itself loose, particularly if the decoration is played with a lot by children or it falls and happens to break. Epoxy glue works well for this, as do several other kinds of craft glue.

Youth Hair-Beading Crafts

Hair beading is a fun way for girls to experiment with hair styling and enjoy the creative play of making their own hair accessories. Projects range from crafting beaded barrettes, bobby pins, hairbands and ponytail holders to using hair-beading tools to attach decorative beads and jewels to sections of hair for a one-of-a-kind style.
Hair Beading Tools and Kits

Girls can accessorize outfits with matching colored beads that attach to small sections of hair with a special tool. And because girls love glitz, some of these tools are designed to work with sparkling gem beads. Hair-beading tools usually include some beads to get started with, and additional sets of beads are available. While these tools are simple to use, younger girls require instruction and supervision by a teen or adult.

Beaded Bobby Pins and Barrettes
Another simple hair craft for girls is customizing standard bobby pins and barrettes with beads to create a glamorous changeable hair ornament. Kits usually include the barrettes or bobby pins, seed beads and spools of wire for stringing. Good for most age groups, this project can become more advanced with the addition of tiny beads.

Changeable-Hair-Ornament

Beaded Hairbands and Ponytail Holders
One hair-beading craft more suitable for older girls is creating ponytail holders from thin elastic string and beads, or even wider hairbands. These projects usually require more advanced beading (and sometimes even sewing) techniques.

Considerations
Hair can get tangled in hair-beading tools as they twist the hair. They generally work best on longer, thicker hair. Those with fine hair may find that beads slip off the hair easily.

Also, some hair-beading craft kits come with beads included and may not include your favorite colors and styles of beads. Look for individual bead packages that are compatible with your hair-beading tool to find the colors and styles you prefer. Most hair-beading crafts for girls are inexpensive, and the beads can be reused in other projects.

How to Comb Hair

No one wants to go out looking like who did it and why so, here are ways to keep your mane intact.
Instructions:

1.
If you wear rollers, unsnap, unpin and roll down in the direction of the curl.

2.
Take a feathered or fine toothcomb and sweep in the direction of the curl assuring that every strand of hair is in place the way you desire it.

3.
Part hair with the tip of the biggest part of the comb, if you desire your hair in a certain style.

4.
Using the remaining teeth of the larger end, comb the hair in the direction you desire or the direction of the curl.

5.
If your hair is in a wrap style, take a feathered or fine toothed comb using the largest part of the teeth and sweep in the direction of the wrap left to right or right to left to avoid breakage. The wrap style is styled in a circular motion and when combed down it will be straight.

6.
With a wrap, the hair will lay straight once combed in the direction you wrapped it.

7.
The comb should sweep through the hair in a downward position, if the hair rolled in a downward direction. Any other way will cause the hair to look frizzy and not done.

8.
Your curls will be tight when combed out with no bounce if the rollers are tight.

9.
If the hair is loose, the hair should be easy to comb.

10.
Spray for added effect and staying power.

How to Make a Feathered Hair Ornament

Feathered hair ornaments–known in England as “fascinators”–are fun to wear in place of hats at formal events and cocktail parties. They’ve become popular with women attending the Kentucky Derby. Some brides wear feathered hair ornaments in place of veils. The feathered hair ornament automatically makes any outfit fancier.

Instructions:

1.1
Find a long hair clip such as those used in hair salons. Holding the clip open, begin to wrap the thin ribbon around the top only, starting at the end nearest the spring.

2.2
After wrapping a few turns around the top of the clip, add a drop of glue and the quill of a feather. Wrap another round of ribbon to trap the end of the feather.

3.3
Continue wrapping, adding another feather or the stem of a tiny silk flower every few turns. Let the feathers overlap each other and project sideways from the clip. Add craft glue wherever it won’t be seen. Use sewing thread to bind elements to the clip, if necessary. They can be trimmed off later.

4.4
Trim off the remaining ribbon when you get to the end of the clip. Tuck and glue the end underneath.

5.5
Glue a tiny silk or satin flower to the top of the clip to disguise the handle over the spring. Add additional gemstones and jewelry findings, if desired. If using long feathers, add them last by coating the ends in glue and sliding them under the ribbon.

Three-Quarter Length
This veil is also called the waltz or ballerina veil because it falls somewhere between the bride’s knees and her ankles. It may be made of plain tulle or lined with satin.
Cathedral
A cathedral length veil is the most formal of wedding veils; it trails down the bride’s back and onto the floor behind her. Cathedral length veils are usually worn with cathedral length dresses, which have trains.
